Have You Ever Seen a Thought Bubble Rain?

It happened one day in the middle of May
Not particularly special, in fact a bit grey.

I was sitting at my desk while racking my brain
When suddenly my thought bubble started to rain.

No warning, no thunder, no lightning bolt shocks
Just the slow steady drizzle from the sound of my thoughts.
I jumped up from the seat with great dismay,
I thought that maybe I'd gone insane!

Down hallways I ran till I saw the front door,
"if I could just get outside, I’ll lose it for sure!”

But when I arrived, I saw nothing had changed
And that to my head, the thought bubble was chained.

I know what you’re thinking, this cannot exist!
yet it gets weirder still as the plot takes a twist.

I was staring at my thoughts and rain with much dread
When suddenly a light bulb appeared over my head!

(It was shining so bright - I thought, “Am I dead?)

And it struck me right then in this ridiculous state
Something so powerful, it might have been fate:

“You know when they talk of a dark rain cloud
That hangs over their heads and follows them around?

Well it isn’t a cloud that’s following you see.
It’s a thought bubble filled with one’s own thinking!

No one is cursed by something up in the sky
No magical force making us sad inside.

It’s the thoughts in our heads creating our moods
And we have the power to change our own tunes.”

Well, I had so much faith in this new insight
I decided to test it to make sure it was right.

So I started to think of the happiest things,
What makes me smile, dance, laugh, and sing.

Ten seconds in, my thought bubble changed.
It started to lighten and let up on the rain.

In less than a minute, the cloud disappeared
And in its place, a sun had appeared.

You know those people who glow from their skin?

It’s their happy thoughts shining from within!
So next time you feel like a dark stormy cloud
Won’t leave you alone and stop following you around.

Remember it’s your thoughts that have started to rain,
That are making you sad and causing you pain.

If you change your thoughts, the clouds will pass by
A sun will come out and brighten the sky.

And what if you see someone else in the rain,
Of their own gloomy thoughts causing them pain?

You might start to think, “Why should I care?

I’m not in their head in the dark of their lair.”

Well that, my friend, is the greatest mistake
To assume you are free from another’s heartache.

For thought bubbles can grow to such a great size
that they’ll rain on you when you’re just passing by.
So the next lesson is when you see a person down
With those pesky dark thoughts following them around.

Walk over and smile, say a word that is kind
You might just be what changes their mind.
